Giant Tsunami-Shaped Clouds Roll Across Alabama Skies: A series of huge breaking waves lined the skyline in Birmingham, Alabama, last Friday (Dec 16), with their crests surging forward in slow motion. Experts say the clouds are examples of “Kelvin-Helmholtz waves.” This type of turbulence occurs when a fast-moving layer of fluid slides on top of a slower, thicker layer, dragging its surface forward.
