Northern Lights Seen Across Southeastern US: Red and pink streaks filled the sky across parts of the country after the Earth’s magnetic field was hit by a coronal mass ejection (CME), enabling the Northern Lights to be seen across the southeastern part of the US. The ejection hit Monday, October 24th, at around 2p.m. ET, and was seen across Arkansas, Tennessee, northern Alabama, northern Mississippi, and North Carolina. The Northern Lights occur when energy particles from the sun interact with the Earth’s magnetic field. These particular auroras were very powerful, and veteran observers in Norway said they were the strongest and most beautiful they had ever seen.
