Hour 1: David Gebler
According to global advisor David Gebler, an expert in corporate scandals and Amerika Now’s first guest this evening, good employees do bad things when they’re part of an unhealthy culture of “Don’t ask too many questions” or “I know this is wrong, but it’s not my problem.” The question is, what creates this type of culture?
For nearly 20 years, nationally recognized thought leader, author, speaker, and ethics advisor David Gebler has advised global organizations in the field of values-based ethics and culture risk management, teaching leaders how to reduce people-based risks while improving productivity and corporate reputation. Gebler has “fixed” ailing corporations such as Staples, Sun Life Financial, General Dynamics, Boeing, Molson Coors, and Scotts-MiracleGro among others.
In his new book, The 3 Power Values: How Commitment, Integrity, and Transparency Clear the Roadblocks to Performance, David Gebler explains why some companies get it “so wrong,” while others “get it so right.” Gebler says the answer lies deep within an organization’s corporate culture. He says leaders mistakenly think they need to teach the “right values” to managers and employees, who already embody the values and behaviors that are required for success. Instead, these leaders need to identify and remove the roadblocks that keep employees from living the right values in the first place.
David will share the “3 Power Values:” Commitment, Integrity, and Transparency and provide a new road map based on more than 20 years of experience advising major global organizations on ethics, values, and culture. His breakthrough model will offer leaders at all levels ways to measure, manage, and transform an organization’s culture, clearing the way for optimal performance and sustainable, long-term success. He’ll also help you determine if your workplace is hijacking your values.
A frequent speaker and panelist, Gebler has appeared on CNN, CNBC, and WBGH, discussing topical ethics issues. He has been named one of Trust Across America’s Top 100 Thought Leaders in Trustworthy Business Behavior, and is also the author of Creating a Culture of Compliance as well as his latest book, The 3 Powers.
A business lawyer by training, Gebler received his J.D. from the University of California, Davis. He worked with firms such as Proskauer and Gamma International, as well as CBS Records International in Israel and El Al Airlines before forming The Working Values Group in 1993 and the Skout Group in 2008. Gebler has served as an ethics advisor for numerous organizations, and is on the International Advisory Board of Suffolk University’s Graduate Program in Ethics and Public Policy, where he co-teaches a course in Business Ethics.
