The Doomsday clock remains at two minutes to midnight as the risk to civilization from both nuclear weapons and climate change continues to escalate.
This week, Trump announced that the U.S. will withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. In doing so, Trump essentially (and once again) played into Putin’s hands while alienating (and hurting) our allies in NATO.
On the climate front, we’re heading toward the brink of disaster. Once on the forefront of designing and supporting global agreements that advanced a cleaner, safer, healthier planet, the U.S. under the Trump administration is undermining all attempts to develop and apply solutions to this “defining issue of our time” (United Nations statement on Climate Change).
