Hour 1: Renee Mollan-Masters
Joining Amerika Now during the first hour of the show is bestselling author and speaker Renee Mollan-Masters, M.A., who will be discussing her book and program, You Are Smarter Than You Think.

Research has shown that this intellectual discrimination happens not because of the lack of intelligence or poor teaching, rather it happens because our brains are more different than fingerprints! As a result, even when a teacher teaches very well, more than half of the students will have difficulty receiving and remembering the information being presented.
When Renee was in second grade her best friend was moved to the third grade because her teachers thought she was much smarter than the rest of the class. During their freshman year of college, however, both had a botany class together which was taught experientially. It wasn’t just a lecture class–you experienced it, and the tests were given the same way. At the end of the class, Mollan-Masters had received the highest grade in the class while her “smarter” friend had received a “C.”
What happened was not a matter of intelligence. It was a matter of how the ideas were presented: one way aligned with one of the girl’s brain’s talents and the other way aligned with the other girl’s brain’s talents.
Based on this information, Mollan-Masters developed the You Are Smarter Than You Think program, including her book, online program and, new in 2014, an online interactive system titled The Journey, which uses the latest in online technology to help individuals uncover their natural intelligence so that their true “smarts” will emerge in any situation.
Renee Mollan-Masters graduated with both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Speech Pathology from California State University, Fullerton. She was voted most outstanding senior clinician by the facility.
She worked as a speech pathologist in the Fountain Valley School District and in her own private practice for 10 years. During this time she created (with other teachers) a reading remediation program which was later used statewide.
While teaching a College Success Class at Orange Coast College, she developed the You Are Smarter Than You Think program.
The first edition of her book was published in 1992. At that time Renee was invited to present this new idea at the National League of Nurses National Convention. In 1997, the second edition of the book was published, and for 10 years during the 90s, Mollan-Masters surveyed nursing students all over the country. Due to the success of that work, in 2011-12 a legitimate study was conducted at the University of Minnesota.
In 2013, as a result of this study and in addition to requests from nursing facilities, an online program was developed. In 2014, the online version of the book was completed, titled The Journey.
