(1) OPEN Discussion on The Election Showdown: What’s Next?
Clinton versus Trump…while some Sanders’ faithful and #NeverTrumpers still might not be ready to accept the match-up, the stage is now set for the two presumptive nominees’ showdown. So what’s next…what might we expect from both sides?
First, in spite of Clinton and Trump taking totally different paths to get to this point, both are somewhat weak, unpopular candidates, although Clinton begins as the favorite. Both Clinton and Trump will have a challenge ahead in uniting their parties, but this will be a much bigger problem for Trump.
As to the election itself, while recent presidential elections have been fairly close in popular vote, the 2016 election is shaping up differently. It’s possible we could have a candidate who wins the popular vote by more than 10 points. In addition, it will be interesting to watch what happens in both the House and Senate.
And as for the showdown itself, all bets are off as to how weird and wild it may get. Thursday’s Twitter showdown between Trump and Clinton (after Obama endorsed Clinton) scored the first burn of the general election. And there’s still a long ways to go until November.
