This week, as America marked the grim milestone of more than 500,000 Americans dead from the coronavirus and as the B.1.1.7 variant first seen in the U.K. gains ground in becoming the dominant strain in the U.S., Republicans, most without masks, gathered in Orlando at the Conservative Political Action Conference to spread not only lies about the election and the insurrection at the Capitol, but the coronavirus as well.
Kicking off Friday, CPAC’s theme quickly became apparent…the Big Election Lie, aka “Protecting the Elections.” Trump, hailed as a hero at CPAC, will be making an appearance on Sunday, once again reinforcing his lie that the election was stolen from him. In support of this false claim, CPAC showed a video that suggested widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election…claiming Republican votes were “cancelled” and that it was “statistically impossible” how Joe Biden gained ground on election night in key swing states.
Biden’s win was not “statistically impossible.” The fact that Biden won shows that it was possible. And if, as Republicans continue to claim, it was impossible, then it’s impossible, but Biden’s win was never impossible in any legitimate sense of the word. To put it in terms Trump and his followers might understand, it is statistically impossible that their false claim is correct! Joe Biden won the election and there was no widespread fraud or wrongdoing. Period!
As to the attack on the Capitol, in spite of conservative speakers at CPAC suggesting that Antifa, BLM, and other left-wing groups were involved, the insurrection was overwhelmingly Trump supporters. More than a dozen Trump supporters charged in connection with the attack have pushed back against the Republicans’ false-flag theory, stating they and other Trump supporters deserve the credit for storming the Capitol. Proud boys, indeed!
It appears the party of anti-cancel culture now seeks to cancel their own members’ involvement in the attack, denying them to be the “patriots” they claim to be in supposedly trying to restore the Republic.
Speaking of cancel culture, Don Jr. earlier this week just couldn’t resist sticking both feet in his mouth when he attempted to mock the Left and cancel culture by stating that “This month alone, they’ve banned The Muppets…there’s nothing these psychos won’t destroy.”
It goes without saying The Muppets have not been cancelled or banned. In all his lack of wisdom, Trump Jr. was referring to a decision by Disney+ to include a warning at the beginning of some episodes that the show contains some “negative depictions” and “mistreatment of people or cultures.” One would think that by now Junior would know what cancelled means…after all he, his father and their family and movement were cancelled in the election of 2020.
But again, all of this from the party that now brings you their version of the Golden Calf…a golden statue of Trump, unveiled Friday at CPAC. It appears the Republicans are all in on worshipping a false idol who was twice impeached and who continues to undermine the U.S. presidential election process by spewing debunked, baseless claims that he won the election handily, not Biden. We can only hope they will all end up wandering the electoral desert for 40 years now.
For a party that claims to be such good Christians, I remind them of what the Bible has to say about idolatry…Exodus 20:2-4: You shall have no other gods besides me. You shall not make for yourselves a sculptured image, or any likeness of what is in the Heavens above, or on the Earth below, or in the waters under the Earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them.
Every week I ask you the same question, “What will it take for us to rid ourselves of this darkness once and for all? Will we continue to accept such outright idolatry and falsehoods or will we, once and for all, unite in defeating the real darkness that is making mockery of America?
JOIN Barb and John as they discuss The Republicans’ Golden Calf.
Joining the show during the second hour is recognized authority on fear and fear-based disorders, clinical psychologist Dr. Carla Marie Manly. Dr. Manly will be discussing her book, Joy from Fear: Create the Life of Your Dreams by Making Fear Your Friend.
Troubling memories are often storehouses of pain and hurt. Seated deep within our minds, they can seem impossible to dislodge. Clinical psychologist Dr. Carla Marie Manly offers five simple steps to safely face our fearful memories, learn from them, and successfully break free.
Many of us go through our lives hampered by painful memories. Aware of them or not, they can trigger tremendous pain and prevent us from thriving in our lives. But the more conscious of these fears we are, the more we can break free of their hold.
In Joy From Fear: Create the Life of Your Dreams by Making Fear Your Friend, practicing psychologist Dr. Carla Marie Manly shares the keys to overcoming fear. Instead of denying fear, we need to face it — and heed its inner voice. Her method will help you detach from fear and learn from it. You will also learn how to separate constructive from destructive fear and how to find the meaning in your fears and use it to your benefit.
During the interview Dr. Manly will discuss (1) How to use patience and perseverance to loosen the grip of childhood fears; (2) Why burying a bad memory actually gives it more power over us; (3) How to detach and “watch” a fearful memory without feeling its toll; (4) Why we need to listen to our bodies’ reactions to painful memories; and (5) How to practice simple, imaginal exercises to finally let go of a fearful memory.
