{"id":7632,"date":"2014-03-27T14:38:07","date_gmt":"2014-03-27T20:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/barbadamslive.com\/?p=7632"},"modified":"2014-03-31T14:37:43","modified_gmt":"2014-03-31T20:37:43","slug":"location-location-location-and-the-zombie-apocalypse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/barbadamslive.com\/?p=7632","title":{"rendered":"Location, Location, Location&#8230;and the Zombie Apocalypse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A study released earlier this week ranked all 50 U.S. states on which are the most and least likely to survive a zombie apocalypse.<\/p>\n<p>Appealing to the public\u2019s seemingly insatiable appetite for all things zombie, real-estate website <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.estately.com\/2014\/03\/u-s-states-ranked-from-most-to-least-prepared-for-the-zombie-apocalypse\/\">Estately<\/a> conducted a study which ranked all 50 states on which would be most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse.\u00a0 The company looked at 11 different metrics to rank the states, including the number of active and retired military personnel per capita, physical activity, obesity rank, survival skills, number of guns, knowledge of zombies, and number of triathletes among others.\u00a0 High on the list of skills necessary to survive a zombie apocalypse are \u201cknow your enemy\u201d and being physically capable of either out-running or shooting them.<\/p>\n<p>Which states ranked highest as the most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse?\u00a0 Alaska, Wyoming, and Colorado topped the list as having the most physically fit, zealous zombie fighters.\u00a0 Alaskans, as the study pointed out, are \u201cused to running from bears and moose\u201d and won\u2019t be afraid of \u201cslow-moving corpses.\u201d\u00a0 Additionally, \u201cAlaska is packed with military personnel and veterans, and they\u2019re only a fraction of the well-armed Alaskans prepared to shoot zombies from a moving snowmobile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wyoming and Colorado also ranked high for similar reasons, with Wyoming edging out Colorado because \u201cNo other state has a shared love of zombie movies and guns like Wyoming.\u201d\u00a0 However, \u201cColoradans are well known to be among the most physically fit in the country, so when zombies start crawling out of their graves, most of the state\u2019s residents will be miles away, easily jogging up a 10,000-foot mountain.\u201d \u00a0And after the last several years of historic wildfires followed by epic flooding, Coloradans could probably teach everyone a thing or two about survival skills.<\/p>\n<p>On the other end of the scale, New Jersey ranked \u201cdead last,\u201d and, as the survey states, \u201c\u2026if the zombie apocalypse began today and you live in New Jersey, the odds are 100% that you\u2019ve already been bitten and have become a zombie.\u201d Bridgegate, anyone?<\/p>\n<p>Also among the worst were a number of other East Coast locations, including Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, and Washington, D.C., which the study pointed out as having \u201c\u2026almost no knowledge of zombies, martial arts, or firearm ownership.\u00a0 It\u2019s going to be an all-you-can-eat brain buffet for the zombies,\u201d which brings new meaning to zombie politics.<\/p>\n<p>While it may seem at times like the walking dead are already among us, it\u2019s slightly \u201creassuring\u201d to know that at least a handful of the nation\u2019s states are well-prepared to deal with a zombie apocalypse.\u00a0 If you\u2019re \u201clucky\u201d enough to be living in one of those states, perhaps you can now add that to the list of features when selling your home.\u00a0 After all, when considering moving, wouldn\u2019t you want to live in a state where the residents are more prepared to take on hoards of shuffling, foul-smelling, brain-eating creatures?\u00a0 And for those living in the bottom states, perhaps renting \u201cThe Walking Dead\u201d or \u201cZombieland\u201d might not be a bad idea, because as most everyone knows, in real estate it\u2019s all about \u201clocation, location, location.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So the next time your real estate agent says, \u201cLocation, location, location,\u201d you\u2019ll know secretly that means Alaska, Wyoming, and Colorado\u2014the top three states most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse!<\/p>\n<p>Link to article:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www1.gcnlive.com\/CMS\/index.php\/component\/k2\/380-location-location-location-and-the-zombie-apocalypse\" target=\"_blank\"> http:\/\/www1.gcnlive.com\/CMS\/index.php\/component\/k2\/380-location-location-location-and-the-zombie-apocalypse<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A study released earlier this week ranked all 50 U.S. states on which are the most and least likely to survive a zombie apocalypse.
