Alien Planet in Habitable Zone Confirmed by NASA Telescope: <\/strong>NASA’s Kepler spacecraft has confirmed the discovery of the first alien world in its host star’s habitable zone–the zone that is just the right distance from a host star that could allow liquid water to exist.\u00a0 The find is among 1,000 new explanet candidates researchers announced.\u00a0 The finding brings Kepler’s total haul to 2,326 potential planets in its 16 months of operation.\u00a0 It also quadruples the number of planets known to exist beyond the solar system.\u00a0 The newest discovery, Kepler-22b, orbits a sun very much like our own.\u00a0 “We’re getting closer and closer to discovering the so-called Goldilocks planet,” said Pete Worden, Director, NASA Ames.\u00a0 The new planet is about 600 light years away.\u00a0 Kepler-22b’s radius is 2.4 times that of Earth, and it has similar temperatures, with an average surface temperature of 72 degrees Fahrenheit.<\/p>\n
