\"\"“Healthcare in America is a for-profit business, and patients are the biggest losers,” say Amerika Now’s first guest this evening, Lee Einer.\u00a0 Lee is a former insurance company employee who worked for roughly 20 years in the medical finance field, employed by both insurance companies and medical providers.\u00a0 Einer gained the reputation as an insurance “hit man” after appearing in Michael Moore’s movie, Sicko<\/em><\/strong>, in which he explained the “dirty tricks” used by insurers and medical providers to get out of paying claims and providing necessary life care for patients. Sickened by what he saw, he spent the last seven years of that time blowing the whistle on medical fraud.<\/p>\n

Einer describes our healthcare system as a convoluted “for-profit system, where the patient is the biggest loser.”\u00a0 According to Einer, the recently passed Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act falls well short of its namesake as well.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And as for the American healthcare system, he says “We can expect death by denial to take thousands of American lives every year.\u00a0 We can expect to still have around 24 million uninsured Americans, even a decade from now.\u00a0 We can expect that medical expenses will continue to be the leading cause of foreclosures and bankruptcies for working families, and we can expect our insurance system to be the most dysfunctional and the least humane medical reimbursement system in the developed world.”<\/p>\n

Since leaving the insurance industry, Lee has worked as a journalist, jeweler, IT technician, and a community organizer.<\/p>\n
