Yellowstone Supervolcano Bigger Than Thought: <\/strong>The gigantic underground plume of partly molten rock that feeds the Yellowstone supervolcano might be bigger than previously thought, a new image suggests.\u00a0 The study says nothing about the chances of a cataclysmic eruption, however, but provides scientists with a valuable new perspective on the vast and deep reservoir of fiery material that feeds such eruptions, the last of which occurred 600,000 years ago.<\/p>\n

In Netherlands, A Modern-Day Noah Builds Ark: <\/strong>If there ever was a country that understands floods it is The Netherlands, where one quarter of the land is below sea level, and it is here that a modern-day Noah is constructing an ark.\u00a0 It all began in 1992 when Dutch building contractor Johan Huibers dreamt of a flood.\u00a0 The full-sized replica is close to completion, and Huibers plans on taking the ship around the world, beginning in London in time for the Olympic Games in 2012.<\/p>\n

Japan Ups Nuclear Crisis Severity to Match Chernobyl: <\/strong>Japan raised the crisis level at its crippled nuclear plant to a severity level on par with the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, citing high overall radiation levels that have contaminated air, tap water, vegetables, and seawater.\u00a0 The severity level has now been raised to a 7, which is the highest level on the international scale.<\/p>\n

Workers at the stricken plant discovered another small fire near a reactor, but it was extinguished quickly.\u00a0 The setback was another sign that the crisis has not abated.\u00a0 It was not clear if the fire was related to a magnitude 6.3 earthquake that shook Tokyo Tuesday morning.\u00a0 Aftershocks continue to take lives, with a 7.0 tremor on Monday claiming the life of a 16-year-old girl.\u00a0 More than 25,000 people have been killed and over 145,000 are still living in shelters with over 240,000 without electricity.<\/p>\n
