\"\"Our guest for November 6, 2010, for all four hours is Stuart Robbins, a sixth-year graduate student in Astrophysics at the University of Colorado-Boulder.\u00a0 Stuart is interested and active in the education and public outreach (EPO) part of astronomy and considers it a fundamental part of what a research scientist should do.\u00a0 His focus in this area is more of a sub-class of normal EPO, as he is most interested in combating the bad science that is out there as it relates to astronomy, geology, and\/or physics.\u00a0 Stuart has given many interviews, public lectures, and planetarium shows on these topics, and also writes a popular blog entitled,\u00a0 Exposing Pseudoastronomy <\/em>(http:\/\/pseudoastro.wordpress.com\/)<\/a>.\u00a0 He most recently has given public lectures and shows about the Apollo Moon Hoax, conservative young-Earth creationism claims, and the 2012 non-event.<\/p>\n

Stuart was interested in astronomy from an early age, and he began public outreach in seventh grade when he co-authored an award-winning website about stars and the solar system.\u00a0 He went on to graduate with a B.S. in Astronomy and a double minor in Physics and Geology from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio.\u00a0 He received his Masters in Astrophysics in 2008 and will be defending his doctoral thesis next year in 2011.\u00a0\u00a0 His main research focus is studying craters on the planet Mars, though he hopes to be able to apply the techniques and analysis he has developed on that planet to other bodies in the future, such as the moon and\/or Mercury.\u00a0 One of his research philosophies is that if you’re going to study something, do it all, not just a little bit.\u00a0 To that end, his doctoral thesis research is creating a vast, global database of craters on the planet Mars from which to extract various nuggets of information.<\/p>\n
