Hour 1 – Barb Adams and John J. Higgins, Party of Lies<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Tell a lie often enough and you start to believe it. Republicans have repeated their own big lies so often they\u2019ve come to believe their own falsehoods.<\/p>\n

For example, take the \u201cBig Lie\u201d that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump. Numerous Republicans, including even Mr. Assault the Truth at Every Chance You Get Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin have admitted that Trump lost the election. But because these same Republicans also believe another of their own big lies that the Democrats\/Left are an \u201cexistential threat\u201d to America, they will do anything to stop that perceived \u201cthreat,\u201d even going so far as aligning with Putin and restricting\/suppressing voting rights. In essence, they\u2019ve become that which they fear, an \u201cexistential threat\u201d to our Republic and American democracy.<\/p>\n

Voting rights are sacred, \u201cof the people, by the people, for the people.\u201d Every American should be more than concerned about the GOP\u2019s concerted efforts to stifle voting rights, for once we lose our right to vote or have our votes no longer count, we have lost our democracy and it will be difficult if not impossible to get it back. Democracy will become autocracy.<\/p>\n

Because the GOP offers little to nothing in the way of an agenda for bettering the lives of Americans, they need to rig the system to regain and then maintain power. They must continue their lies in order to pander to their base, many of whom represent the real threat to this nation. The January 6th<\/sup> insurrection was a direct result of Trump and his sycophants pushing the Big Lie.<\/p>\n

Almost equally as dangerous are the lies Republicans perpetuate regarding climate change, the pandemic, and science, which many in the GOP state is not to be trusted. \u00a0Climate change poses a real, ongoing threat to humans and ecosystems, and the pandemic continues to cost American lives as the Delta variant spreads rapidly in parts of the U.S. with low vaccination rates. It is in these areas where Republican \u201ctrue believers\u201d reside where the lies are doing the most harm, however, as residents refuse to vaccinate because the pandemic is a \u201choax\u201d or because \u201cBill Gates placed a tracking device in the vaccine\u201d or Biden\u2019s vaccine push is akin to \u201c\u2026Nazi-era brown shirts\u201d or \u201cBiden’s coming for your guns and Bibles.\u201d\u00a0 Sadly, many of these people would rather believe these conspiracy theories\u00a0 as they stand by and let not only themselves and their families and friends die, but allow democracy in this country to die as well.<\/p>\n

The Republicans\u2019 poisonous lies are inundating every facet of our way of life, from voting rights and elections to rewriting American history. In light of their current attacks and lies regarding Critical Race Theory, can you imagine what their rewrite of history regarding slavery would look like?…After getting free passage to America, they all had jobs waiting for them. The American dream realized!<\/p>\n

The modern Republican Party is the Party of Lies. CPAC kicked off in Dallas yesterday with Trump and the Big Lie headlining. Amidst cheers regarding the Big Lie, it\u2019s clear the overall message is embrace Trump, lies work!<\/p>\n

We must take these lies and the threats they pose seriously. We are witnessing what happens when politicians convince themselves their lies are true and will stop at nothing to justify anything, no matter the consequences.<\/p>\n

We must not allow the minority fringe to control the narrative. For every lie, truth must be spoken loudly and often. Some form of the For the People Act must be passed to protect our democracy, and we must put pressure on our elected officials to end the filibuster. Furthermore, we must never give up hope, for hope is stronger than fear born from lies and it provides the way we can rid ourselves of the darkness upon us once and for all.<\/p>\n
