Americans turned out in record numbers to vote in the 2020 election and it\u2019s been a week since Joe Biden was projected President-elect. With some 78 million votes thus far (the most for any presidential candidate ever in American history) and 306 electoral votes, Biden\u2019s win, in Trump\u2019s own 2016 words, is nothing less than a landslide.<\/p>\n

Reality aside, Trump has still not conceded, instead spending his time claiming the election was rigged and stolen from him, alleging massive voter fraud, pressing ahead with lawsuits in a number of states challenging the outcome. And he\u2019s doing all this while also taking credit for the most secure election ever in American history-something confirmed by his<\/em> own government.<\/p>\n

Perhaps worse, though, are the many members of the Republican Party who continue to echo Trump\u2019s claims of election fraud while others, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, refuse to acknowledge Biden\u2019s victory, poisoning what remains of good will in our Republic in aiding Trump\u2019s autocratic delusions and assault on a peaceful transfer of power. Putin and the Russians couldn\u2019t have planned such sabotage better!<\/p>\n

And all of this couldn\u2019t be happening at a worse time as COVID-19 explodes out of control. This week, our country passed the 10 million mark for COVID-19 cases. Nearly 250,000 Americans have died thus far\u2014that\u2019s a quarter million Americans dead. To put it in perspective, that\u2019s more than all the wars since Vietnam and it\u2019s the equivalent of two airplanes crashing every single day so far.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s obscene what\u2019s happening. While Trump and the Republicans focus on nonexistent election fraud and delusions, they\u2019re allowing the very real pandemic to continue to take yet untold numbers of American lives.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the unseen consequences of Trump\u2019s and the GOP\u2019s strategy are not only killing Americans in real time, they\u2019re purposely destroying faith in our democracy. As Trump continues to tell the nation he won an election he lost and that the American electoral system is rigged, the post-truth alternative nation he and his followers built continues to erode the very fabric and foundation of this nation. What Trump and the GOP are creating is a serious and immediate legitimacy crisis, convincing millions of rank-and-file Republicans that not just the 2020 election was stolen from them but that vote fraud by Democrats is routine and pervasive so as to call into question the legitimacy of all<\/em> elections.<\/p>\n

In what could possibly be a do-or-die moment for American democracy, the GOP has chosen to follow Trump\u2014a man who cheated to get into college, cheated to get out of going to Vietnam, cheated on his wives, cheated on his taxes, cheated students out of their money with his scam university, and is continuing to cheat his donors and followers out of their money in trying to cheat his way out of an election loss. In rejecting truth and fact, even about the most fundamental democratic matter\u2014which number of votes is bigger\u2014the GOP appears willing to stick with Trump to the bitter, illiberal end!<\/p>\n

But the end is in sight. We must not lose faith and we must not buy into their fear. Something much bigger is taking place right now and Humanity is on the verge of something much greater if We allow. Hope, Light and Love won this election. Trump\u2019s, and by complicity the GOP\u2019s, reckoning awaits. To every thing, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under Heaven.<\/p>\n
