Harvey Weinstein, Roy Moore, Al Franken, George H. W. Bush, Kevin Spacey, Louis C.K., Ben Affleck, Mark Halperin, Dustin Hoffman, Dr. Larry Nassar and countless other men of power —\u00a0 all accused of sexual misconduct. Weinstein currently faces accusations of sexual harassment or assault from more than 60 women, and is under criminal investigation in Los Angeles, New York, and London. Previously, in 2016, there were accusations against Bill Cosby, Bill O’Reilly, Roger Ailes, and then-candidate for president, Donald J. Trump (Trump was caught on tape making crude, sexually aggressive comments about women).<\/p>\n

Weinstein’s outing by The New York Times<\/em> led to the creation of the #MeToo campaign, where women can come forth publicly and accuse men of harassment or assault.<\/p>\n

When the #MeToo campaign began, people were stunned by the number of women coming forward. But we shouldn’t be surprised and we shouldn’t just focus on the high-profile cases. Sexual misconduct happens everyday, everywhere to women from all walks of life.\u00a0 Women have been forced to hide their experiences for fear of not being believed or because of the stigma attached.<\/p>\n

And there are other problems women face:\u00a0 (1) women are at higher risk of poverty; (2) women are more likely to be victims of domestic violence; (3) women are underrepresented in politics; (4) rape culture is real and women rape victims still seek justice; and (5) women still face inequality in the workplace, both in pay and opportunity for advancement.<\/p>\n
